Welcome and thank you for considering Eastern Airlines Virtual (EAV) as your virtual airline. You will find we are a diverse community who share the great passion for flight simming. In order to start your membership with EAV, we ask that you review, accept, and abide by the minimum requirements listed below.
What to Expect
We have three simple rules: Use our ACARS, Fly Assigned flights, and Submit a PIREP once every two weeks.
We don’t do check rides
We don’t require VATSIM or any other online simulation network
We don’t limit our fleet based on rank
We will communicate with you on a weekly basis
We will provide fun and challenging monthly events
We will provide special tours that allow you to visit new destinations
We will reward you for your participation
We will provide the opportunity for you to ‘Earn your wings, Everyday!’
Minimum Requirements
You must own a legal copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Any version from FS9 through FSX. Note that most fleet aircraft available to you have been tested in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Microsoft Flight Simulator X
You must be able to take-off, navigate a course, and land successfully. If you have problems with any of these, you should review the lessons offered in your flight simulator. Note that we offer advanced training, which is available to all members. We can help you with advanced navigation, making your own flight plans, SID/STAR navigation, etc. We can help you with advanced techniques of flying and navigation through our forum or one-on-one training online
You must be at least 16 years of age
You must have an active email account for correspondence
Your respect for other pilots and members in our forum and online communications and forums is mandatory. There will be no bashing of other members, our VA or other VA’s within our forum or elsewhere.
You must file a Pilot Report (PIREP) of either 2 or 4 legs at least once every two weeks to be considered active once assigned to a hub. New pilots will automatically be assigned to our training hub at Kansas City International (KMCI) where you must submit a PIREP at least once a week to remain active
You will be required to download and install Virtual Airlines Financial Systems. (VAFS) This is our pilot reporting system. All flights assigned to you must be flown using this stand-alone program. The program is free to all EAV pilots.
Upon submitting your pilot application, you will receive instructions for an initial training flight. You must fly this flight and submit your hours before your application will be considered.
Upon receiving your hours, Senior Management will review your application. If your application is accepted, our VP of Operations will contact you by email, at which time you will receive your pilot ID and an explanation of how to activate your VAFS Account. Access to the website and information on how to connect to our voice server will be emailed separately. In addition, you will be given your first official assignment for EAV by the Kansas City Hub Manager.
PIREPs
Each pilot must file a PIREP at least once every two weeks to be considered active once assigned to a hub. You will receive a reminder email if you become inactive. Unresponsive Pilots will be removed from the EAV roster within 48 hours of the reminder email.
Leave of Absence (LOA)
Pilots may request a LOA if they will not be able to meet the requirements for submitting PIREPs. A LOA is good for 30 days, at which point you must request an extension. LOA requests are accepted at the sole discretion of your hub manager. Extension requests are processed through the VP of Operations.
Hub Transfers
Requests to transfer from your current hub to another are permitted, provided you have been in your current hub for a minimum of 30 days and the request is approved by the VP of Operations. A transfer request from or to Kansas City is not permitted.
Forum
We encourage you to participate in the forum. After all, this VA is for you. Within the forum, you will find many others who share your passion for flight simming. If you have any questions pertaining to flight simulation, navigation, aircraft downloads, etc. ask the question. Someone will respond typically within hours.
Ventrilo
Ventrilo is our online voice server. You are strongly encouraged to use your free account and join the fun. There is usually someone on at any given point and it is a great place to get help or join in some group flights.
Online Flying
Although not required, it is recommended. If you’ve never flown online before, here is a good place to start. You can fly online with your friends and pilots within our VA. Online flying is a fantastic way to hone your flying skills. In addition, there is live ATC to help and direct you during your flight. In the forum we will have announcements of EAV fly-ins on a weekly basis. If you choose not to use VATSIM or IVAO, we have our own multiplayer channel that does not provide ATC.
Management Positions
Occasionally jobs in management will become available. At that time, we will post a notice in the forum. If interested, you simply apply. Senior Management will then decide on the successful candidate. Any position in management is available to any pilot provided they have been an active pilot for at least 6 months, are at least 18 years of age and they do not belong to another VA. Any Senior Management position that becomes available requires that you are active at least 1 year within the VA.
Crediting Hours from another VA
If you have decided to join us from another VA, we will credit you with up to 100 verifiable hours. When you submit your application identify the VA you are coming from, the website and your pilot ID.
Flight Simulator – Accelerated Flight
Eastern Airlines Virtual likes to keep it as real as possible. Accelerated Flight is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. VAFS will record your flight in Real-Time even though Flight Simulator may be accelerated. IE: KJFK – EGLL/EST FLT HRS: 8.5. If you accelerate the flight in Flight Simulator it may take 3.0 FLT HRS, VAFS will block it as 3.0 FLT HRS not the true 8.5 FLT HRS it should take. Pausing your simulator is also prohibited.
If you feel that you can’t fly long-haul flights without using the flight acceleration option in Flight Simulator then please let your Hub Manager know. Any filed PIREP suspected of Flight Acceleration is subject to deletion as well as the associated hours in VAFS. Please keep in mind that we are trying to be fair to everyone. This is a hobby and is supposed to be fun. We do not want to skew our numbers, we want honest, good-hearted pilots flying with us.
